Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51M viewers across the US, Canada, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball stated this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic game drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership reached 16.1 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and the network’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
